The Calgary Highlanders made two attacks, the last with a massive fireplan and creeping barrage. A scene in the film shows a single 25-pdr gun firing in support of the Watch.Michael Doroshhttp://canadiansoldiers.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6500214634417135257.post-85880041536851670122022-07-29T23:07:47.771-06:002022-07-29T23:07:47.771-06:00I liked the movie, but they showed the Canadians a...I liked the movie, but they showed the Canadians attacking across the causeway with just Bren Guns and Enfield Rifles supporting them. Come on, the Canadians must have had some big guns supporting the attack, at least mortars and tank gunsJakesterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03589306218906845495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6500214634417135257.post-78616671961743120462021-10-17T20:26:38.306-06:002021-10-17T20:26:38.306-06:00Absolutely agree. I note the British actor Tom Felton, of Harry Potter fame, doing outstanding work as the glider pilot. This film was far better than I expected.
Dwighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16284905227094950420noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6500214634417135257.post-68611527984113172432021-10-17T18:53:31.240-06:002021-10-17T18:53:31.240-06:00Just watched and agree this Dutch film is very wel...Just watched and agree this Dutch film is very well done. The battle scenes equal in intensity Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers.

I was only generally aware of the battle for the estuary and ignorant of the decisive Canadian role in taking the estuary — which was of incredible importance to the Allies.

It doesn’t surprise me that a Dutch production would have a Dutch focus. Nevertheless, the Canadian military role is portrayed very well as an example of incredible bravery.

Well worth watching.

Paul B
USA pbernishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01260092330535703025noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6500214634417135257.post-5244187393921474842021-10-16T23:12:32.328-06:002021-10-16T23:12:32.328-06:00I watched it this evening - and was hugely impress...I watched it this evening - and was hugely impressed.

There's a lot of (very well done) CGI. So the Horsa gliders and Halifax towing aircraft are all there, as are Dakotas and Lancasters, T-34s and Panzerfausts, Bren guns and MP-38s.

But unlike many WWII films, this is a "character study" of various people caught up in it. And all of the unknown (to me) actors gave me a glimpse into the extraordinary human carnage of it. Everyone was fighting their own war...and some survived it.

Personally I'd rate this film as being on a par with "Saving Private Ryan" (1998)" or "Dunkirk" (2017) or "1917" (2019).
It literally took me to places I've never been.

and...thank you Calgary Highlanders
BumpyBryanthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08286429750381480126noreply@blogger.com
